CCPA Law Review

What is the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)?

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) was signed into law on June 28, 2018, and came into effect on January 01, 2020.

CCPA protects Californian consumers from mismanagement of their personal data and gives them control over what data is collected, processed, shared or sold, and requires companies that conduct business with consumers in the State of California to implement structural changes to their privacy programs.

Compliance violations are punishable by fines of up to $7,500 per record plus the potential for class-action litigation.
